IN a move aimed at reducing disputes on estimated water bills, the City of Mutare has called on customers and stakeholders with non-functional or obsolete water meters on their properties to replace them.
In a statement to the public, the local authority said replacing non-functional or obsolete water meters remains the customer’s responsibility.
Customers who replace the water meters will be compensated for the purchase price as the associated cost will be credited to their accounts, provided it does not exceed speficified thresholds.
“Notice is herby given to all City of Mutare customers and stakeholders with obsolete water meters that the council resolved at its 1 300th full council meeting to allow customers who have financial capacity to replace obsolete water meters on their properties in lieu of compensation for the purchase price, provided it does not exceed specified thresholds.
“Price thresholds and recommended suppliers for water meters will be jointly provided by the Finance Director and City Engineer,” reads the statement.
The correct specifications of the approved water meters acceptable to the local authority can be obtained from the City Engineer’s office as from February 1, adds the notice.
