MARY Nyoni, a Grade Five pupil at Gomututu Secondary School in Mberengwa East constituency, can finally bid farewell to lessons held in the scorching sun.

A new classroom block, funded through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), has been completed, offering a safer and more comfortable learning environment for her and her schoolmates.

The CDF is a Government initiative through which funds are allocated to all elected Members of Parliament to support developmental projects aimed at improving livelihoods.

The 2026 allocation is expected to continue driving infrastructure development such as schools, clinics and water points, with a strong focus on community upliftment.

Mberengwa East legislator, Cde Tasara Hungwe, together with the Constituency Development team, utilised the Government released CDF funds to construct the new classroom block. The structure provides long awaited relief for the school and is expected to enhance the learning environment and improve academic outcomes.

“We are thrilled to have this new classroom block because learning under the tree was not easy, especially during hot days,” said a delighted Mary.

Cde Hungwe said the development aligns with the Second Republic’s agenda, which aims to leave no one and no place behind. He said the CDF-funded project demonstrated Government’s commitment to strengthening education infrastructure in rural areas.

“More than 100 learners at Gomututu Secondary School in Mberengwa are set to benefit from newly constructed classroom blocks funded through the Constituency Development Fund as infrastructure development in rural communities gathers pace,” he said.

“The upgrade follows the disbursement of CDF resources under the Second Republic’s development agenda, which seeks to leave no one and no place behind. The new classroom block has significantly improved learning conditions at the school, strengthening access to quality education in Mberengwa District.”

Cde Hungwe added that the programme will help reduce disparities between rural and urban education systems.

“I think this programme will play a key role in reducing educational gaps between rural and urban folks.

I would want to thank the Second Republic for making such great efforts in changing the education sector.

“The Second Republic has done a lot in the education sector through the 5.0 model. We are building labs and giving computers to schools in the constituency,” he said.

Mberengwa District Development Co-ordinator, Mr Vafias Hlabati, said the development would greatly enhance learning conditions while strengthening access to quality education across the district.

“The upgrade aligns with Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), which prioritise infrastructure growth and quality education for all. With the new classroom block, Gomututu Secondary School is set to become a model for other schools in the district, showcasing the power of community development and Government support,” he said.

Mr Hlabati said the development forms part of wider infrastructure growth efforts under Vision 2030 and NDS2.

Villagers welcomed the new classroom block, describing it as a major boost to education in the area and encouraging learners to make the most of the facilities.

“Now, we have a block of two classrooms here, I want to urge beneficiaries to utilise this productively and work hard in their studies,” said Mrs Angela Sibanda.Another villager, Mr Anthony Yakusi, praised the Second Republic for sustaining constituency development through the provision of CDF allocations.

“I want to thank the Second Republic for development programmes here in Mberengwa. I am happy that there is development in my ward and that the Government is investing in our children’s education,” he said.

Mr Yakusi said the project reflects continuing efforts to improve learning standards in rural communities.

“Our children here will advance their studies at this school, which is near their homes, which is good for us. There are a lot of programmes being funded through CDF in this ward, and we are thankful to Cde Hungwe for using those funds towards the development of our areas,” he said.

School head, Miss Ellen Mavira, welcomed the new block, saying it would strengthen academic performance.

“The classroom block is not only an invaluable asset to the school, but it also enhances learning for the learners who need favourable learning environment to bring out the best. We’re also happy with what various stakeholders are doing in assisting the school and the community at large,” she said.
