New clinic for Shurugwi

THE Tongogara Community Share Ownership Trust (TCSOT) has built a state-of-the-art clinic to service villagers in Zviumwa area, Ward 16 under Chief Nhema in Shurugwi at a cost of $184 000.
TCSOT trust administrator Mr Maxwell Dave said the clinic was a welcome relief to villagers and was going to offer primary health care. He said villagers were being forced to walk for more than 27km to the nearest clinic to seek medical care.

“Medical clinics are very important for the primary health care of the community. Ward 16 people no longer have to walk 27km to seek medical attention, but less than 10km with a new clinic built here. The country’s economic blue print, Zim Asset emphasises on the social services delivery, with the health sector being a key primary issue and as a trust we seek to deliver accordingly,” Mr Dave said.

He said the clinic which was constructed by two construction companies Chemhere Brothers Investments and Rodricks Contractors included three clinic blocks, two staff houses, three Blair toilets, a water tank with a capacity of 5 000 litres and a sewage system.

Ward 16 councillor Danisa Mujere applauded the TCSOT for building a clinic saying it was coming as a relief to women and children since they frequently visits clinics for primary health care.

Clr Mujere said the trust is complementing the access for health to all as required in the health sector objectives.
“Usually women are the most burdened people when it comes to health services, they look after the whole family, so shorter distance is a bigger relief to them, because here in rural areas, transport is a challenge so most of the time they walk,” she said.

TCSOT was launched on 3 November 2011 by President Mugabe. The trust has also constructed a state-of-the-art Msasa Primary School which has enrolled 400 pupils, a maternity ward and mortuary at Zvemabande Rural Hospital under Chief Ndanga. It has also constructed a 90 000 cubic metre dam which provides water to more than 200 villagers and rehabilitation of Svika Clinic including installation of water reticulations all was done under Chief Nhema and construction of two classroom block and a staff house was built under Chief Banga.

New equipment for road maintenance and drilling of boreholes was procured under the trust. Over 200 km of distance roads in the rural area of Tongogara have been repaired and boreholes have been sunk in each and every ward.
