NEW: Co-operatives president scoops USA award

HOUSING Co-operatives Union’s national president, Mr Micah Duru, has been honoured with the United States of America Overseas Co-operative Development Council International Cooperative Champion Award.

The award will be presented to Mr Duru virtually for his sterling efforts in promoting co-operatives and the co-operative models in Zimbabwe.

In her communication to Mr Duru, US Overseas Co-operative Development deputy executive director, Ms LuAnn Warner, stated: “Johnson Andinda of HealthPartners nominated you for the US Overseas Co-operative Development Council (OCDC) International Co-operative Award. After careful review of all nominations, we are pleased to announce that you have been selected as the 2023 recipient of the award. The review committee was pleased with your work and extra efforts in promoting co-operatives and the co-operative model.

“The award will be presented virtually on October 4, 2023 at the2023 Co-operative IMPACT Conference. Due to the international aspect, we hope to record the award being presented over Zoom and then air the recording at the conference for those in attendance.”

An excited Mr Duru said: “I am over the moon for being a recipient of this prestigious international award. This shows that our efforts in promoting co-operatives and providing decent accommodation to the populace of Zimbabwe are being recognised globally.

 

“We will continue working hard to ensure that the less privileged members of the society have decent and affordable accommodation. I want to express my sincere gratitude to my colleagues in the union, members of different co-operatives that we operate with and my family for their unwavering support. Together, we can move mountains.”
