Illegal vendors, hawkers and pirate taxis are being targeted in a new operation launched by Harare City Council to bring order in the capital.
Code-named ‘Operation Clean-Up Harare’, the exercise invokes Harare (Vendors) By-laws of 2014 and Statutory Instrument 109 of 1979.
In a letter to the director of Housing and Community Services dated April 11, 2022, acting Town Clerk Engineer Phakamile Moyo said:
“All council officials in each district shall cooperate with district officer(s) and enforce provisions of relevant laws such as Harare (Vendors) By-laws of 2014 and SI-109 of 1979.
“All activities shall be coordinated by the district officer including daily statistical returns, which shall be complied and consolidated for this office every Monday 10am.”
