Seven new members have been appointed with effect from June 1 to the board of directors for PowerTel Communications Private Limited, the State-owned optic-fibre enterprise.
The appointees are Mr Philip Mbano, Mr Henry Mukono, Mr Chaplin Chinyanga, Mr Emanuel Sunduza, Mr Tapiwa Gumindoga, Dr Linos Mapfumo and Ms Rudo Ncube.
In a statement, Information Communication Technology and Courier Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere said the new board is expected to play a key role in the turnaround of PowerTel.
PowerTel needed to generate 10 percent of the telecommunication national revenue share this year, develop 10 new ICT products, ensure sustainable private-public-partnership initiatives, participate in Government initiatives including smart agriculture and safe cities, ensure good corporate governance and zero tolerance to corruption, implement sustainable infrastructure sharing, ensure sustainable research and development and clear all outstanding legal matters domestic and internationally.
PowerTel Communications is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zesa, licensed by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) as a Class A internet access provider.
It operates an optic fibre backbone network, an optic fibre distribution network and optic fibre and wireless access networks.
The company operates in the information and communication technology sector, offering among other services, the versatile Internet of Things (IoT) business that encompasses Powertrack Fleet Management solution and Transformer Monitoring Solutions.
PowerTel continues with its thrust on converged services provision that address the totality of its clients’ needs whilst positioning the organisation for improved business profitability.
