NEW: Drug peddler gets five years in prison

A 27-year-old man was sentenced to five years in prison for illegal possession of drugs with a street value of $6 million.

Peter Siachinete appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court for possession of 12,032 kg of dagga, which was found in his car.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPA):

“Peter Siachinete (27) was arraigned before the Harare Magistrates’ Court on charges of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.

“The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe told the court that on March 11, 2023, police received information to the effect that the accused person was in possession of dagga in his car, a Honda Fit, which was parked at Eastgate Mall.”

Acting on a tip-off, police approached the accused person and asked to search the vehicle.

The search led to the recovery of two black bags containing smaller plastic paper bags in which the dagga was stashed, leading to Peter’s arrest.

He will serve an effective four years in prison.
