NEW: Duo nabbed over ZESA cable theft

The pair was nabbed while awaiting transportation to Sakubva after smuggling the consignment through an illegal point near Marymount Teachers’ College

Police on Sunday arrested two men in connection with the theft of a 24-metre-long ZESA armoured cable, along a railway line in Mount Hampden.

In a statement on Monday, national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the arrest.

“On 10 July 2022, at around 1am, ZRP Marlborough reacted swiftly to a crime tip and arrested Abraham Saidi (28) and Addington Magana (26) for theft of 24 metres long ZESA armoured cable along a railway line in Mount Hampden,” he said.

“The suspects, and their two accomplices who ran away, were found digging a trench to extract the cable.”
