NEW: Dynamos hint at new goalkeeper

Unheralded Manica Diamonds goalkeeper, Tedious Baye, is expected to join Dynamos FC as a direct replacement for Taimon Mvula, who is leaving.

The 28-year-old Baye played for Greenfuel in the Eastern Region Division One league in 2022, before joining Manica Diamonds at the beginning of the year.

DeMbare are looking to beef up their squad ahead of the 2024 season, in which they will also play in the CAF Confederation Cup competition.

The reigning Chibuku Super Cup champions have also been heavily linked with Bulawayo Chiefs striker Obriel Chirinda.

However, the possible arrival of Baye could also be a huge gain for Dynamos, as the 28-year-old shot stopper’s graph has been on the rise over the last two years.

Baye conceded just five times and kept 22 clean sheets in 26 matches, when Greenfuel won promotion into the Premier Soccer League at the end of 2022.

Greenfuel became only the first club from Chipinge to gain promotion into the top flight, with Baye a pillar for the Chisumbanje-based side.

Baye was then signed as a third choice at Manica Diamonds, who already had Geoffrey Chitsumba and the veteran Jorum Muchambo.

Yet Baye ended up featuring 25 times for Manica Diamonds who finished second in the 2023 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League race.

He kept 13 clean sheets and conceded 16 goals.

A source at Dynamos confirmed the club’s interest in Baye.

“Talks are already in progress and the goalkeeper will most likely be part of the Dynamos squad for 2024.

“It’s an engagement that started soon after DeMbare won the Chibuku Super Cup,” said the source.

Initially, Dynamos wanted Chicken Inn goalie Donovan Bernard, but the Warriors goalkeeper has extended his contract with the Gamecocks.

Also, DeMbare are prepared to let Mvula go, after the former Hwange keeper finished the season on the sidelines, as the youthful Prince Tafiremutsa assumed the number one spot.

Mvula is now linked with Simba Bhora, or a return to Hwange.
