NEW: Eight Roman Catholic Church members perish after kombi plunges into bridge

EIGHT members of the Roman Catholic Church died after a kombi carrying worshippers plunged into Deka Bridge, along Deka Road, in Hwange on Saturday morning.

In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police said the fatal road traffic accident occurred at around 7am.

“The ZRP reports a fatal road traffic accident at Deka Bridge, along Deka Road, Hwange,” reads the statement.

“Eight Roman Catholic members died when their kombi plunged into the bridge as they were coming from night prayers.”

According to police, the vehicle was carrying 13 occupants at the time of the accident.

Details surrounding the incident will be released in due course.
