A 77-year-old man died on Wednesday, after he was trampled on by a stray elephant.

Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) spokesperson, Mr Tinashe Farawo, confirmed the death, adding that the victim is yet to be identified.

“It’s sad to receive the death of an elderly man (77) who was trampled to death by an elephant in Victoria Falls.

“We are fast approaching the dry season, when wildlife and human conflict is set to increase. Wild animals will be leaving the game parks in search of food and water,” Mr Farawo said.

He said the stray elephant was tracked and gunned down.

“The elephant has been killed,” he said.

“This is the seventh death since January due to elephants. We are on the ground carrying out awareness campaigns so that the public stays safe from these wild animals. They are not only losing lives, but also their livelihoods.”
