WOMEN in Chinamhora, Mashonaland East Province, have been urged to introduce traditional dishes in their homes and take heed of health ambassador First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa’s call for increased uptake of healthy traditional foods.

This was said by Mrs Kudzai Ndoro, a community development officer with the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, while officiating at a colourful traditional food and dishes exhibition that was held in Domboshava on Wednesday.

“Some people still mistakenly think that consuming traditional dishes is a sign of poverty. Local women must take heed of the First Lady’s call for women to introduce healthy traditional dishes in their homes,” said Mrs Ndoro.

During the displays, women drawn from Ward 4, Chinamhora, showcased locally produced traditional food and dishes.

Cooking, modelling and dress competitions were also held during the event.

Mrs Cathrine Mapokotera, chairperson of the First Choice Arts and Craft Centre, said: “As you can see from the displays, the traditional food that is on display was produced here in Chinamhora.

“The traditional dishes that you sampled today are being served in our homes.”
