MUTARE is grappling with interruption to its water supply as the City Council continues with emergency repairs on the major Pungwe transmission line following a burst on the main system at the Odzani River crossing last week.
City of Mutare spokesperson Mr Spren Mutiwi said the repair works are ongoing as they move to restore normal service and ensure adequate supplies of the precious liquid.
He said the repairs are expected to be completed this afternoon, after which the waterline will be opened.
Mr Mutiwi added that to ease water users’ plight, they have dispatched five bowsers to various designated distribution points across the city.
“As we continue working on normalising the situation, we are dispatching water bowsers to the customers, residents and stakeholders in need as a contingency measure. We are also calling on those with private bowsers to draw water from our Newcastle Fire Hydrant. The bowsers and containers must be clean to avoid contamination at the source and prevent contaminated water being distributed. The staff in our engineering department will assist with the disinfection process of every bowser before it is allowed to draw water,” said Mr Mutiwi.
The local authority urged people to use water sparingly during this period.
