GOVERNMENT is moving to ensure that civil servants remain committed as this is critical in pursuit of National Development Strategy (NDS1) and fulfilment of Vision 2030, hence the decision to include solar equipment provision to its basket of non-monetary benefits to its workers.
The establishment of a solar loan facility for civil servants was adopted in 2020 as an action point to be implemented following consultations with workers’ representatives after a presentation made by the Public Service Commission (PSC).
In a press statement today, PSC Secretary to Service Commissions Dr Tsitsi Choruma said the solar project is meant to benefit all civil servants in every grade.
“The addition of solar equipment provision to the basket of benefits is in line with Government’s steadfast objective to cushion its employees and improve their conditions of service through the augmentation of monetary benefits with non-monetary incentives. Employee motivation is a critical consideration for Government within the pursuit of NDS1 and Vision 2030 imperatives,” she said.
Dr Choruma said the solar project for civil servants will be implemented in phases as an undertaking of a huge magnitude.
She added: “The Commission recognises the need to implement this project with haste and is currently seized with the task to securing partners to support and enable the rolling out of the project. NDS1 has as one of its priorities ensuring access to modern energy through, among other things, clean energy (green energy). The commission appreciates the resources available within the country and would like to harness and build up on them to make use of renewable sources of energy in as cost-effective and technologically-smart manner as possible.”
