GOVERNMENT remains committed to empowering women in order to spur the country’s economic development and social transformation, Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Minister, Monica Mutsvangwa, has said.
Speaking during the national launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence at Hauna Growth Point in Mutasa District this afternoon, Minister Mutsvangwa said ensuring that women do not suffer in silence is central to achieving the goals of Vision 2030.
“We need to empower women to succeed economically. They bring up empowered children who will build an empowered nation. We say no to Gender-Based Violence; we want an empowered nation,” she said.
Minister Mutsvangwa said there is need for women to take up decision-making positions.
Also addressing the same gathering, Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza, said awareness programmes in communities help to highlight the adverse socio-economic impact of GBV in all its forms.
This year’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence commemorations are running under the theme “Unite, Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women and Children.”
