OLD Georgians Sports Club be a hive of activity this weekend, as the Engen Sevens tournament enters its final day.
Spread over three weeks, the annual Sevens rugby fiesta wraps up with the staging of the final stage of the tournament on Saturday.
Hosts Old Georgians women’s team square up against Glenwood Stars in the first semi-finals of the ladies’ competition, while their male counterparts meet Northern Chiefs in the quarterfinals of the men’s category.
While most expect the OG women’s team to sail through, it will be completely different in the second semi-final, as Police Defenders meet Harare Sports Club.
Completing the men’s quarterfinals will be the pairings of Pitbulls and Zimbiru Titans, Mutare Sports Club and Harare Sports Club, as well as Old Hararians and Old Crestonians.
Action starts at 9am.
“This is the final day of the tournament that began some three weeks ago, and it promises to be an exciting day of rugby with many tricky match-ups in both the men and women’s categories,” said Lindiwe Munerenyu, media manager of Harare Province.
“Old Georgians and Police Defenders look to be the two very strong sides in the women’s category, while any team from Harare Sports Club – OGs, Old Crestonians or Pitbulls – can take it in the men’s group.
“One will have to be there to see who comes out victorious,” she said.
