EQUATORIAL GUINEA President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo is expected in Zimbabwe on Saturday for a two-day State visit.
Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ministry spokesperson Mrs Philisiwe Chidawanyika said the visit will be preceded by the inaugural session of the Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation (JPCC) between the two countries.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade wishes to inform the nation that the President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, His Excellency Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, will undertake a State visit to the Republic of Zimbabwe from 9 to 10 May 2026 at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa,” reads the statement.
“The State visit will be preceded by the Inaugural Session of the Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation (JPCC) between Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea, which will be co-chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Honourable Prof Dr Amon Murwira, and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Diaspora of Equatorial Guinea, Honourable Mr Simeon Oyono Sono Angue on 9 May 2026.”
Mrs Chidawanyika said senior Government officials from both countries will convene ahead of the JPCC session to prepare for deliberations.
“A preparatory meeting of Senior Officials will take place on 7 and 8 May 2026, co-chaired by the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador Albert Ranganai Chimbindi, and his counterpart, General Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Equatorial Guinea, Mr Matias Nguema Mba Medja,” reads the statement.
“Deliberations will focus on progress in the implementation of the Agreements/Memoranda of Understanding that were signed during President Mnangagwa’s State visit to Equatorial Guinea in February 2023, and explore opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of investment, road and air transport, agriculture, mining, fisheries, culture, tourism and energy.”
Government says the State visit highlights the strong relations between Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea, as well as their shared commitment to expanding cooperation.
“It underscores the unwavering commitment by the two leaders and countries towards strengthening and deepening cooperation at the bilateral, continental and multilateral level, for mutual benefit,” added the statement.
