THE State of Palestine has expressed its condolences to President Mnangagwa, the Government and people of Zimbabwe following the tragic capsizing of a ferry on Lake Kariba on Tuesday.
In a condolence message last night, Palestinian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Dr Tamer Almassri said he had received news of the tragedy with great sorrow and stood in solidarity with the country as it mourns the loss of lives and accelerates rescue efforts.
“On behalf of the State of Palestine, and in my own name, I extend our deepest condolences to His Excellency President Mnangagwa, the Government, and the people of the Republic of Zimbabwe, following the tragic capsizing of a boat on Lake Kariba,” he said.
Ambassador Almassri expressed hope for the swift recovery of those still missing and wished survivors a speedy recovery, while extending comfort to families who lost loved ones.
He also commended authorities, emergency services and individuals involved in search and rescue operations for their efforts to locate the missing and assist those affected by the tragedy.
“May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace,” he added.
Lake Kariba is the world’s largest man-made lake and reservoir by volume.
It is roughly 223 to 282 kilometres long, up to 40 kilometres wide, covers an area of 5 580 square kilometres and reaches a maximum depth of 97 metres.
Its size makes it bigger than Cape Verde and Trinidad and Tobago.
