In a move aimed at revitalising the sport, five new faces have been co-opted onto the Beach Soccer Zimbabwe (BSZ) board.

The fresh faces, tasked with steering the sport towards a brighter future, promise to bring a renewed sense of purpose and energy to the discipline.

The new board members, comprising experienced business executives, football administrators and passionate beach soccer enthusiasts, have pledged to address the challenges that have hindered the sport’s growth in recent years.

With a focus on grassroots development, improved infrastructure, and enhanced competition, the board is determined to elevate beach soccer’s profile in Zimbabwe.

“We are excited to take on this challenge,” said BSZ chairman, Mike Mandaza who was the vice chairman of the previous board.

“Our goal is to create a vibrant beach soccer community, where players, coaches, and fans can thrive. We’ll work tirelessly to ensure the sport receives the attention it deserves,” he added.

Business executive and entrepreneur, Gillian Chirodzero who was appointed the new board member for Women emphasised the importance of inclusivity.

“We are committed to growing women’s beach soccer in Zimbabwe. We’ll establish programmes to increase participation and provide opportunities for female players to shine,” Chirodzero said.

The new marketing and promotions board member, Taurai Janhi, highlighted the need for innovative promotion.

“We’ll leverage social media, partnerships, and events to raise beach soccer’s profile. Our goal is to make the sport appealing to a wider audience,” Janhi said.

Janhi who is also the Simba Bhora secretary-general and played a role in the formation of the famed Prince Edward Football Academy and was the chief cashier with the trailblazing, Mwana Africa called on his peers to recognise due processes as they work towards developing and growing beach soccer in the country.

One of only two survivors from the previous board, Chris Nhapi who is the board member responsible for development and technical issues stressed the importance of infrastructure.

“We must work with local authorities to put up beach soccer facilities across the country, ensuring players have access to quality venues.”

Nhapi also emphasised the need for coaching development.

“We’ll establish training programmes for coaches, focusing on beach soccer-specific skills. This will enhance the overall quality of the game,” Nhapi told this publication.

Gijima is a real estate executive while Jemwa is seasoned sports journalist, media consultant and sports administrator. Mandaza is the other business executive who has been appointed to lead the BSZ board for the next four years.

The board’s vision and enthusiasm have already generated buzz within the football community having already staged the country’s very first beach soccer event with many eagerly anticipating the changes to come.

As the board sets to work, beach soccer enthusiasts can expect a new era of excitement, competition, and growth for the sport in Zimbabwe. With the right leadership and support, the possibilities are endless.
