GOVERNMENT has introduced stringent measures to help protect the national beef and dairy herd from various tick-borne diseases.  Speaking to farmers in Hurungwe district on Tuesday, Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development permanent secretary, Dr John Basera, warned farmers against being reluctant to dip their cattle.

“Any farmer who fails to dip his cattle risks getting arrested. This is one of the measures we have put in place to fight livestock diseases including January Disease,” he said.

President Mnangagwa, he said, had introduced the Presidential Livestock Input Scheme to fight Theileriosis or the January Disease scourge.

He said Government was in the process of rehabilitating 2 000 dip tanks countrywide currently that have not been working.
