Online Reporter

A 24-year-old gold dealer,  Spiwe Nyajera, was on Tuesday sentenced to four months in prison for transporting gold ore without a permit in Mazowe.

Spiwe, who resides at Manzou Farm in Mazowe, appeared before Concession magistrate Mr Joshua Nembaware, who sentenced her to four months in prison or a fine of US$300.

The court heard that on June 16, 2023, at around 10am, Spiwe transported approximately one tonne of gold ore from Manzou Farm, where illegal mining activities were being carried out at an unknown milling site without a permit.

She was intercepted by police while gold ore was being loaded into her truck.

Spiwe failed to produce the ore removal permit, which led to her arrest.

Four sacks of gold ore were recovered.
