NEW: Fight against child marriages, teen pregnancies escalated

THE Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Min Nokhuthula Matsikenyeri has called on the Marange community to safeguard the future of their children through shunning child marriages and teen pregnancies.

In a speech read on her behalf by the director in her office, Mr Lucky Bhasopo, during an anti-child marriages awareness campaign hosted by The Manica Post at Zedza Primary School in Marange this afternoon, Minister Matsikenyeri expressed concern on the rising number of school dropouts due to teen pregnancies and child marriages.

She urged the community to give the girl child an opportunity to pursue her education and dreams.

 

Also speaking at the same event, The Manica Post editor Mrs Wendy Nyakurerwa-Matinde said as a family newspaper they are committed to actively fight child marriages.

 

She said all girls regardless of their must realise their full potential and achieve life’s goals.

The inaugural event ran under the them “Let Them Grow”.
