FIVE robbers appeared in court on Friday on allegations of armed robbery of goods and cash worth US$18 000.
Shadreck Kanjera, Petros Nziramasanga, Blessing Kanyenze Muvembi, Peace Muwati and Tinaye Mazhande were charged with armed robbery as defined in Section 126 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23].
Harare Magistrate, Mrs Belinda Chimuka, remanded them in custody to April 2022.
According to prosecutor, Mr Shane Kabonera, on March 3, 2022 at around 0210 hours the accused persons hatched a plan to steal and proceeded to the complainant’s house in Mt Pleasant Heights, armed with a wooden log and planks.
They broke into the complainant’s house and proceeded to his bedroom where he was sleeping with his wife.
The accused assaulted the complainant and his wife and threatened to kill them demanding for money.
They ransacked the bedroom and stole US$300 from the complainant’s wife’s wallet; as well as US$5 700, an iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 11 Promax with and Samsung A11 cellphone from her bag.
They also took three Itel A56 cell phones, three new ladies’ shoes, 10 men’s belts, one Dunlop safety shoes, two men’s rafters, two backpacks and several ladies tops from different places in the bedroom.
The accused persons loaded their loot in their get-away car, a red Nissan X-Trail with registration number ADH 0282, and drove off.
The accused were arrested on March 16, 2022.
Property worth US$7 323 was recovered.
