A US$200 000 Presidential Empowerment Fund intended to benefit residents will be launched at a ZANU PF campaign rally in Glen View South today.

The rally comes two days before the constituency’s by-election scheduled for Saturday.

The ruling party’s final campaign push in the constituency will be led by ZANU PF National Political Commissar Cde Munyaradzi Machacha and Special Presidential Investment Advisor to the United Arab Emirates Dr Paul Tungwarara.

Also expected to attend are ZANU PF Harare provincial chairperson Cde Godwills Masimirembwa and Cde Charles Tavengwa, the party’s Secretary for Education, Research and Ideology, who also serves as Harare Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution.

Speaking ahead of the event, ZANU PF Harare Political Commissar Cde Voyage Dambuza confirmed that preparations are now complete.

“It’s all systems go for the by-election,” he said in an interview.

“Glen View South constituency used to be an opposition stronghold, but we are determined to win this seat at all costs.”

Cde Dambuza highlighted recent development efforts attributed to the ruling party in the area, including the rehabilitation of 11th Avenue Road, the installation of over 11 solar-powered boreholes under the Presidential Borehole Scheme and the establishment of an ICT Centre.

He confirmed that the US$200 000 fund being launched at the rally will provide revolving loans for vendors and other residents to initiate projects.

The ZANU PF candidate for the constituency, Cde Tsitsi Tawomhera, is confident that she will win.

“I will win the seat from the opposition,” she declared.

“President Mnangagwa has spearheaded empowerment programmes in the area to improve the livelihoods of the people. Residents are receiving support through chicks, loans, training and various other empowerment initiatives. I am confident of victory.”
