VACATION SCHOOL for examination classes will run from August 19 to 30 to allow learners to cover their syllabus, a Government official has said.

In a statement, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Mr Moses Mhike said they are concerned about improving pupil performance.

“Schools have different challenges that may have affected their syllabus coverage and necessitate vacation school for examination classes.

“All must be cognisant of the need to prevent the ever-escalating cost of teaching and learning for parents, particularly given the disadvantaged pupils who otherwise would not benefit from extra support,” he said.

“Primary schools will charge US$2 or its equivalent in local currency per learning area for Grade 7 pupils. Secondary schools will charge US$3 per learning area for Form Four pupils and US$5 per learning area for Upper Six students.

“All borders will pay an extra US$4 per day for their upkeep during the vacation school period.”
