Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona has launched a road safety awareness campaign ahead of the upcoming Heroes and Defence Forces holidays.

During the campaign launch in Harare on Wednesday, Minister Mhona emphasised the need for motorists to exercise caution on the roads.

The campaign is running under the theme “Be A Road Safety Hero”.

“I appeal to motorists to understand that they carry people, hence the need to preserve the sanctity of human life by avoiding recklessness on the roads,” he said.

Minister Mhona also discouraged motorists from drinking and driving.

“Speeding and overloading leads to the manifestation of human error, which is attributed to the rates of road crashes.”

During the launch, Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe also called upon all road users to ensure safety during the holidays.

“The police will be in full force across the country’s roads during the holidays,” he said.

The launch of the awareness campaign was organised and hosted by the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe.
