NEW: Govt to procure vehicles for doctors, nurses

Online Reporter

Government will procure vehicles for the country’s health sector workers, who will then pay for the cars through loans, under a restructured Civil Servants Vehicle Loan Scheme.

The new strategy is meant to stem brain drain in the health sector.

Previously, workers were offered loans to buy cars on their own.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa told a post-Cabinet briefing on Tuesday that Government was focusing on providing non-monetary benefits to health workers.

“The Civil Servants Vehicle Loan Scheme rates are being reviewed, while a strategy whereby Government acquires vehicles for health worker beneficiaries, with the loan being amortised through an agreed framework, is being worked out.”

Added Minister Mutsvangwa:

“Regarding the provision of canteen or cafeteria services at health institutions, seed money will be provided to revamp and operationalise existing canteens, as well as construct new ones where the facilities are not available.”

Government is also expediting the completion of model flats for health professionals across the country’s provinces.
