NEW: Harare cuts down old trees near buildings, roads

Online Reporter

HARARE City Council (HCC) has begun cutting down aged trees near buildings and roads around the city.

Recently, there have been incidents of cars and property being damaged by falling trees during windy or rainy days.

In an interview with The Sunday Mail Online, HCC spokesperson, Mr Michael Chideme, said the move is aimed at minimising harm to people and property.

“We started the process in August, where we were identifying trees that may pose danger and cutting them,” said Mr Chideme.

He said the cutting down of trees is a continuous process.

“We also cut down old trees in parks, and we replace those trees by planting new ones,” he said.

HCC has called on the public to report any information on trees that pose potential dangers.
