NEW: ZESA promises ‘lit’ Christmas

Online Reporter

THE Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) has promised the nation a significant reduction in load-shedding, to allow people to enjoy the festive season with minimal power interruptions.

In a statement on Wednesday, ZESA said it has put a plan in place to reduce load-shedding this Christmas.

“We wish to advise all stakeholders that the rehabilitation works will be temporarily shelved until January 5, 2022.

“Accordingly, there will be minimal load-shedding during the festive season, effective December 16, 2021,” the power utility said.

The festive season is ordinarily known for its high energy consumption.

The Authority has been boosted by an additional 345 megawatts (MW), as works on three units at the Kariba Hydro Power Station have now been completed.

Currently, Zimbabwe is generating 1 276MW, against a national demand of 2500MW.
