NEW: Harare Municipality goes after debtors

Harare City Council (HCC) says it has started issuing summons to residents who have been defaulting on paying rates.

Last month, HCC said it was owed $1,5 trillion (ZWL).

Zimbabwe has since adopted a new currency, the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG).

HCC head of corporate communications, Mr Stanley Gama, told The Sunday Mail Online:

“The City of Harare has started issuing summons to residents, organisations and companies who have defaulted on paying rates,” he said. “We, therefore, urge ratepayers to settle their debts before going through the inconvenience of being taken to court.”
