A Harare woman has been brought before the court for assaulting her friend at her workplace over an unpaid debt of US$30.

Lilian Ndlovu was dragged to Harare Civil Court by her friend Tatenda Madhava on Thursday.

Madhava told the court that Ndlovu attacked her in front of her employer and colleagues.

“She is my best friend, and I owe her US$30,” said Madhava.

“She called me last week demanding her money. She then came to my workplace, assaulted me in front of my bosses and warned my co-workers not to lend me anything because I do not pay back.”

Madhava requested the court to bar Ndlovu from visiting her home or workplace.

In response, Ndlovu did not deny the allegations but insisted the debt was US$50.

“I gave her US$50 when she was struggling to pay rent, but now she is refusing to repay me,” Ndlovu argued.

Presiding magistrate Ms Meenal Narotam ruled that Ndlovu must not insult, assault or visit Madhava’s home or workplace.
