IT seems Nyamhunga Stadium is no longer the fortress that ZPC Kariba banked on.
The once-intimidating venue, where ‘Kauya Katuruturu’ rarely lost since 2015 when the stadium got the greenlight to host Premier Soccer League matches, is no longer dreaded by visiting teams to such an extent that even the likes of Tenax can now pick up maximum points at the venue.
ZPC Kariba have one win at Nyamhunga in their last eight matches, and they have lost three times in the same period.
Their recent 0-1 loss to Premiership new boys Tenax on March 26 was another reminder of how Nyamhunga has lost its intimidating atmosphere.
Although ZPC Kariba quickly bounced back from that shock loss with a 2-1 home win over Harare City, Godfrey Tamirepi’s men face another gruelling test against Ngezi Platinum Stars, who have welcomed new gaffer Benjani Mwaruwari with some decent performances.
ZPC Kariba host Ngezi Platinum Stars at Nyamhunga on Saturday in one of the major highlights of the 2021/2022 Castle Lager PSL Match Day 12.
It has been a poor start for Tamirepi’s side, who have 10 points in 11 matches, and are currently 14th on the table, just two points above the relegation zone.
The 2014 runners-up have to quickly put their act together if they are to avoid fighting relegation, as the season staggers towards the halfway mark.
The other big game of Week 12 is the clash between FC Platinum and Independence Cup winners Highlanders at Mandava Stadium on Saturday.
Log leaders Dynamos host stubborn Manica Diamonds at the National Sports on Sunday, while CAPS United have a date with Triangle at Gibbo on the same afternoon.
