NEW: HCC to charge certain services exclusively in US dollars

Online Reporter

HARARE City Council (HCC) says it will begin charging certain services exclusively in United States dollars starting on Thursday, in line with a Council resolution made on August 3 this year.

This is despite the fact that pricing of goods and services exclusively in US dollars remains illegal.

While HCC did not specify which services will be charged exclusively in US dollars, acting town clerk, Engineer Phakamile Moyo, said they exclude all monthly bills such as water consumption, sewerage, refuse collection and rates.

“Council wishes to advise its valued residents and stakeholders that certain fees chargeable by Council are now payable exclusively in United States dollars with effect from the 1st of September 2022,” said Mr Moyo in a statement.

“The fees exclude all charges that are accessible through the monthly bills, i.e. water consumption, sewerage, refuse collection and rates.

“The above-mentioned charges will remain open to being payable using multi-currency as may be opted by the client.”
