HARARE City Council (HCC) has warned companies to stop erecting marketing tear-drops along municipal roads, servitudes and pedestrian walkways as it may distract road users.

According to Harare’s by-laws, it is illegal to set up any advertising structure without the permission of the local authority.

“City of Harare has witnessed a rapid increase in the use of marketing flags ‘tear-drops’ along municipal road servitudes and pedestrian walkways.

“Tear-drops are a distraction to road users, impairing judgment and possibly causing accidents,” said HCC in a statement on Wednesday.

It added that companies should erect advertising flags within their company premises.

“Companies are advised to erect flags inside their private properties. In this regard, you are hereby advised to desist from mounting these flags along road servitudes.

HCC has warned that it will remove the illegal marketing flags and charge the removal cost to the affected entities.
