HERENTALS coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva is confident the additions he made to his squad will help turn around the club’s fortunes in the Chibuku Super Cup, which returns with seven matches on Wednesday.
The tournament was halted at the first-round stage by a third wave of Covid-19 infections.
Herentals were one of the teams that were struggling to find their feet.
They anchor Group 1 with two points in six matches going into Wednesday’s clash against ZPC Kariba at the National Sports Stadium.
The match kicks off at 11am.
“Our first round was very poor, that is why we readjusted by acquiring some players. So far, we have had a good start to our preparations and the turnout of players has been very good,” Mutiwekuziva told The Sunday Mail Sport.
Amongst the new acquisitions is former Chicken Inn striker Paddington Nyamakura; Clemence Zimondi, who joined from Mushowani Stars; and Denzel Chimwemwe, who dumped Harare City.
Kelvin Bingala is also back from Zambia, while Blessing Maunganidze has resumed training after missing the first round.
“We have also added Calum English-Brown, who is expected to add some fluidity in the attack,” he said.
The 20-year-old English-Brown, who is a product of Legends Academy, is expected to form a formidable frontline with the exciting Tino Benza.
Benza was one of the most outstanding players at Herentals in the first round and there are reports that his performances have attracted suitors from South Africa and Europe.
“It’s actually good that football is finally back. It’s a good development for players, coaches and all the stakeholders.
“But, as coaches, we also took this absence of football to develop ourselves by watching a number of games from different leagues, learning one or two things without pressure,” the Herentals gaffer added.
“We have also been interacting with other coaches on how we can adapt to the new normal,” he added.
