NEW: Herentals target Chipinge football talent

Sports Report

AMBITIOUS Castle Lager Premiership outfit, Herentals College have set their sights on scouting football talent in the farming town of Chipinge as a way of promoting budding footballers and giving back to the community.

The club’s events coordinator, Irvine Nyirenda said they will host a sports gala for primary schools drawn from the district’s peri-urban areas for talent identification.

Manicaland is a bedrock of football gems and Chipinge in particular has over the years produced stars such as Lovemore “Thula” Maphuya and Eddie “Chimombe” Dube who turned out for Dynamos and Highlanders respectively.

“As Herentals Group of Colleges, we have keen interest in unearthing raw talent and polish them into shining gems. The future of our games lies in developing junior talent.

“To that end, we will be hosting a soccer gala at Gaza for primary schools in Chipinge’s peri-urban to identify young talent for nurturing. The event will present Grade Seven learners who recently finished writing their finals examinations with an opportunity to showcase their talents,” said Nyirenda.

Nyirenda said they will host similar soccer galas in other districts of the province to take the game to the grassroots.
