Jazz music lovers have something to smile about following the opening of new joint Cheers Liquid Lounge in the capital. Over the weekend, the joint hosted Javabvu Drive and Jean Masters. The two groups performed last Friday and Saturday, respectively, as the new joint was officially opened. Venue events manager Pitchu said they have decided to have the venue so that people can enjoy jazz music from different musicians.

“As you can see this place is in the Avenues area and there was need for us to provide something cool. We had musicians Jean Masters and Javabvu performing and the response was good,” he said.

He said they were planning to introduce Mbira nights so that they give their patrons a variety.

“Though we are more into Jazz we are planning to have at least a day per week with mbira groups so that patrons get something different,” he said.

Musicians Diana Samkange, Tanga Wekwa Sando and Bob Nyabinde are some of the artistes lined up to perform at the venue.

“We have several musicians lined to perform here and we are happy that the musicians and the patrons are happy with the place,” he said.

Jean Masters on Saturday gave a spellbound performance at the place.

She managed to give patrons real value of their money as she belted out songs from her album “Misi Haifanane” and upcoming songs.

Sister Jean as the musician is fondly known also played songs of great legends.

She said coming with such a venue was a good idea for the music industry.

“Whenever a new joint opens in the capital we enjoy as musicians. This is a good venue that as musicians we are happy to have,” she said.

Time will tell if the venue will provide enough entertainment and services as places like the defunct Jazz 105 and Book Cafe used to do.
