NGONI MAKUSHA received a huge boost ahead of his 100-metre race at the on-going Olympic games in Tokyo, Japan.
The Zimbabwe sprint king takes to the track on Saturday.
His preparations have, however, been boosted by the late addition and arrival of his coach David Tinago days before the short distance runner begins his quest of Olympic glory this weekend.
The two have had ample time to acclimatise to the Asian weather and conditions, with Tinago expressing satisfaction with Makusha’s progress so far.
“It’s really great, and such an honour, to be able to get this opportunity to grace the Olympics,” said Tinago.
“It will definitely be an advantage to Ngoni (Makusha), us being here together, as not many athletes are here in Japan with their actual coaches,” he said.
Tinago has had a couple of work-outs with Makusha, and is very confident of a good outing come Saturday’s heats.
“Our first couple of sessions have been really good, and everything seems to be in order.
“We have been focusing most of our attention on the technical side, working on our starts and polishing up on our race strategy.
“Building up to the preliminary stage (Heats) of the race this weekend, the plan is to do just enough to qualify and then take it from there,” he said
