NEW: Interpol arrest 76

The International Criminal Police has arrested 76 people, under operation Flash Illicit Pharmaceuticals and Health in Africa.

Since the inception of the operation, 340 have been arrested.

In a statement on Monday, national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the operation was aimed at arresting and dismantling organised crime groups involved in illicit activities.

“76 people were arrested under an operation code named ‘Flash Illicit Pharmaceuticals and Health Products in Africa, an INTERPOL-AFRIPOL joint operation aimed at arresting and dismantling Organised Crime Groups involved in these illicit activities.

“A total of 340 people have been arrested since the inception of the operation,” he said.

Interpol enables police in 194-member countries to work together to fight international crime and Zimbabwe has been a member since November 1980.
