NEW: Kadewere hoping for revival in Spain

TINO KADEWERE is relishing the opportunity to  “live a new experience in a new championship.”

This follows his recent move to La Liga side, Real Mallorca, on a season long deal from Ligue 1 giants, Olympique Lyonnais (OL).

The Zimbabwean striker had a poor 2021/2022 season with OL, making a paltry 15 appearances, with 12 of them as a substitute and scoring once in 497 minutes of action.

As a result, Kadewere’s future with OL was always a talking point during the off-season, until the French-side facilitated a loan deal to Real Mallorca, where former Cameroon striker, Samuel Eto’o, flourished between 2000 and 2004, before earning a big move to Barcelona.

And the 26-year-old Kadewere is also hoping to revive his career in Spain, as revealed in a ‘thank you’ message he wrote to OL fans on Tuesday morning.

“The time has therefore come for me to live a new experience in a new championship,” Kadewere wrote on his official Twitter handle.

“Before starting my new adventure, I wanted to thank the OL institution from the bottom of my heart. Thanks to Lyon for facilitating this loan.

“From the president to the employees, including the various technical staff and of course, my teammates: I want to thank you all for these last months spent together.”

Kadewere sat on the bench for OL in two matches this season, before the Real Mallorca deal materialised.

The former Harare City man says he will continue to follow the French giants.

He also hailed OL as a team of “high quality.”

“The ambitions are high, and the team is of high quality. I am sure a successful season awaits you (OL), you deserve it.

“I will continue to follow you and encourage you. See you soon,” wrote Kadewere.

The Highfield-bred player signed a four-year deal with Lyon in January 2020 after impressing with Ligue 2 side, Le Havre, where he won the Golden Boot after banging in 20 goals during the 2019/2020 season.

His contract with OL expires on June 30, 2024.
