Zimbabwe’s national power generation hit 1 744 megawatts (MW) today, driven by a strong performance from Kariba South Power Station, according to statistics from the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC).
The surge in output marks a significant recovery from the long hours of loadshedding experienced in 2024, which were largely caused by an El Niño-induced drought.
While Kariba’s daily average had previously hovered below 300 MW, the station was producing 600MW today.
Hwange Power Station also played a crucial role, generating 1 091 MW, while independent power producers contributed an additional 53 MW.
The power supply situation is expected to improve further as several new power generation projects are slated for completion starting later this year, offering hope of more stable electricity for households and businesses across the country.
