Of late, Zim hip-hop has gained ground in terms of preference among local music enthusiasts.
Not so long ago, Zimdancehall and sungura arguably had the lion’s share of followers.
However, the trend has been changing.
And it seems it is not only fans that are being charmed by the genre, but dancehall chanters as well.
Probably this explains why most Zimdancehall artistes, especially the top acts, are now incorporating a fusion of beats with a bias towards hip-hop in their music.
Likewise, most upcoming musicians are joining the movement, with Tafadzwa Mazvidzo – who goes by the stage name Hunnid – being one of them.
The Highfield-based artiste recently dropped a single titled, “Tamy Moyo”, that has captured the attention of
many.
“I titled the single ‘Tamy Moyo’ as an appreciation of her (Tamy) outstanding work, which has brought some vibe to the music industry. In fact, I was inspired by her to venture into music,” revealed Hunnid.
The Manex Production Studios project is expected to open new avenues for the aspiring musician who has been working underground for years.
Besides Tamy Moyo, he said he is also inspired by Holy Ten and Ti Gonzi. ExQ, Takura and King 98 have also successfully kept the hip-hop fire burning.
“Holy Ten and Ti Gonzi are thriving in the industry. I wish to follow in the footsteps and become one of, if not, the leading hip-hop singer(s) in the country,” he added. Hunnid is currently working on a new album that is due for release soon.
He hopes to make it big in the cut-throat music industry.
