COUNTRIES under the Limpopo Watercourse Commission (LIMCOM) will meet next week in Musina, South Africa, to recommit their support for deepening transboundary cooperation in the Limpopo River Basin.

Ministers responsible for Water Affairs from Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe are expected to attend and sign the amendment to the LIMCOM Agreement.

In a statement, LIMCOM said the Ministers will sign the amendment to the LIMCOM Agreement.

The agreement ratifies the establishment of the Council of Ministers as LIMCOM’s main policy and decision-making body.

“Article 4 of the LIMCOM Agreement signed in November 2003 did not initially include the Council of Ministers.

“Therefore, the formalisation of the Council of Ministers as the main policy body will improve the governance structure of LIMCOM and its Secretariat,” reads part of the statement.

The agreement aims to foster closer cooperation for judicious, sustainable, and coordinated management, protection, and utilisation of shared watercourses in line with the 2000 Revised Sadc Protocol on Shared Watercourses.

At the same meeting, the Ministers will approve various LIMCOM governance and policy documents that provide necessary guidance for the corporate operational governance of the LIMCOM Secretariat in terms of administration, financial management, human resources policy management, and procurement and assets management.
