GOVERNMENT is concerned by reports that some liquor licence holders are involved in the distribution of drugs such as crystal methamphetamine as well as the sale of alcohol to underage persons, it has been learnt.

In an interview, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works Engineer Tafadzwa Muguti said authorities will continue to carry out inspections across the country to end the mischief.

“Given the growing challenge of drug and substance abuse, it is concerning that applications for liquor licences continue to rise at a time when more young people are being exposed to alcohol and harmful substances,” said Eng Muguti.

“We are also concerned by reports that some licence holders are involved in the distribution of drugs, including crystal methamphetamine, and the sale of alcohol to underage persons. This will not be tolerated. We will continue conducting inspections across the country.”

The Government, he also said , will take corrective action against the proliferation of bottle stores in some communities.
