NEW: Local bus assemblers strike deal with Chinese firm

The Amalgamated Bus Industries and the Bus Assemblers in Zimbabwe have signed a memorandum of agreement with bus and coach manufacturer, Zhongtong Buses, which will see the Chinese manufacturer begin assembling buses locally in July.

Speaking at the signing ceremony on Wednesday, Transport and Infrastructural Development Deputy Minister Mike Madiro said the deal will create jobs.

“The local manufacture of buses will ensure that we are taking advantage of the vertical and horizontal integration.

Amalgamated Bus Industries chairperson Mr Samson Nhanhanga commended Government for providing an enabling business environment.

He said each locally assembled bus will save the country over US$100 000.
