The world’s fastest growing airline, Qatar Airways is highly impressed by the new look Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, its Southern Africa regional manager Mr Fouad Caunhye, has said.

Officially opening the airline’s first ever town office in Belgravia, Harare on Tuesday Mr Caunhye said the international airport is a now marvel and Qatar will continue working with Zimbabwe to market it as a destination of choice.

“So, Qatar Airways is an undisputed leader in the global airline sector, and we are proud to bring that power to bear on Zimbabwe’s travel sector, helping your efforts to promote your beautiful country as a destination of choice, and helping  visitors from around the world to experience the famously warm Zimbabwean welcome and to bring their currency with them.

‘It is so much of a thrilling trip walking down the new look Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, now.

“That is great.

“This gives travellers to and from Zimbabwe more choice, enhanced services and greater connectivity, with our daily flights from Harare connecting to over 160 destinations, Mr Caunhye told guests that included the Deputy Minister of Transport and infrastructural Development Mike Madiro.

He added: “We believe Africa will continue to show sustained growth for leisure, business and cargo traffic and, together with our partners around the continent, we are well placed to serve this demand.

“As travel and trade professionals you are aware probably that Qatar Airways was the only airline to continue operations to Southern Africa throughout the pandemic and in its immediate aftermath.”

Deputy Minister Madiro said Zimbabwe will continue playing its part in opening up its skies to airline, under the Second Republic in line with the mantra Leaving no One and No Place Behind.

‘Evidence of Government’s commitment to the air transport industry is clear and we want to thank Qatar for their flight from Doha to Lusaka via Harare for the past two years.

“Zimbabwe is one of the countries where Qatar is now operating a daily flight, having started with three flights a week.

“The opening of the town offices in Harare coincides with the new look Robert Mugabe International Airport, which will be commissioned in a few weeks,” he said.

Until Tuesday, Qatar only had an office at the airport and potential passengers had no access to an office in town.

The tastefully decorated office is along East Road in Belgravia and is convenient to many people.
