New-look Harare gets thumbs up

Residents, motorists and business people in Harare have applauded the Government’s efforts to beautify the capital city in preparation for the upcoming 44th SADC Summit of Heads of States and Governments.

The programme has achieved its aims of boosting economic development, enhancing aesthetics and fostering civic pride in the capital.

A shop owner Mr Tendai Munyuki said the beautification had not only boosted economic development, but enhanced aesthetics.

“It is wonderful to see the Government taking these initiatives to clean up and spruce up the city,” he said.

“The new greenery and flags make the area look more presentable for our guests ahead of the summit.”

Mr Enoch Mboto, said the beautification is aimed at transforming Harare into a vibrant and attractive city.

“The beautification process has enhanced more business transactions with more motorists now accessing these newly developed roads,” he said.

“Now such developments have reminded us that Harare can be transformed into a colourful and alluring city.”

A supervisor at Exodus Construction Company that is working on Nemakonde Way and Sam Nujoma Street Extension Mr Kudakwashe Chindenga said these initiatives sought to beautify the city for the upcoming SADC Summit and beyond.

“To ensure that the city shines at the upcoming SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government, we are constructing parks with features like trees, evergreen grass and flowers.

“Additionally, we’ve included bluetooth sprinklers, which will make it easier for people to water their yards easily.

A motorist, Mrs Letwin Mugadzi hailed the rehabilitation of roads, saying;  “I think the Government has made a wise decision in putting up lawns and planting trees along our major roads and open spaces.” 

A shop owner, Mr Thanks Mandoopera, said the Government’s initiative has brought communities together, fostering a sense of ownership and pride among residents.

“With its new-found beauty and charm, Harare is poised to take centre stage as a shining example of urban renewal and revitalisation,” he said.

“As the visitors come, they will undoubtedly be impressed by the warm hospitality and stunning surroundings that Harare has to offer”.

Mrs Lydia Dondo said the new lawns near the Joina City footbridge were a photographer’s dream.

“We are thrilled to see the beautiful lawns and landscaping along the roads, especially near the Joina City footbridge. We all know how much everyone loves taking pictures there, and now it is even more picturesque. It is a great way to showcase our city’s beauty and make us proud to call Harare our home,” she said.

Just a walk in Harare, vibrant green lawns, lush trees, and flowing flags now line Julius Nyerere Way,  Nemakonde Way, and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Road among others, transforming the city’s landscape.
