NEW: Madzibaba Ishmael in court for raping three teenagers

Johane Masowe Echishanu Gorejena Penyeranyika sect leader Ishmael Chokurongerwa appeared in court on Tuesday facing charges of raping and siring children with three teenage girls from his church.

He was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare regional magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje.

Chokurongerwa is charged with three counts of rape.

Two of the girls are aged 14, while the other is 15.

According to the State, led by Mr Lancelot Mutsokoti, the incidents occurred sometime in February last year.

It is said DNA tests carried on the girls and Madzibaba Ishmael at National University of Science and Technology confirmed that he was the father of the children.

Madzibaba Ishmael was released on free bail and is expected back in court on November 22 for trial.
