RENOWNED dancer and sungura musician Selemani “Majuice” Mpochi has dispelled rumours he has parted ways with his long-time boss, Alick Macheso, and joined Romeo Gasa.
This comes after Majuice was left by Macheso for the United Kingdom (UK) tour last week.
While the band was in the UK, Majuice was spotted dancing at Romeo Gasa’s live performance at Bar Rogue, Long Cheng Plaza, in Harare on Friday.
This touched off rumours on social media, with many claiming he has parted ways with Macheso.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail Online, Majuice said he has no intention of joining Romeo Gasa, because he is still Macheso’s employee.
“In my mind I have no intention to join Romeo Gasa, because I am still working under Macheso. I just went there for fun and to support Romeo,” he said.
Majuice said his younger brother, “Malokoto”, is employed by Romeo Gasa as a dancer, so on some occasions he visits the Extra Valembe band to support him.
Mr Tich Makahamadze, Extra Mberikwazvo and Alick Macheso’s manager, also said Majuice is still with them.
“Don’t read all those rumours saying that Majuice has joined Romeo; he is still our band member,” said Tich.
He said the omission of Majuice for the UK tour was because of the limited number of band members needed.
“Our recent tour to the UK, in which Majuice was omitted, was not a turning point of our relationship: The number of members was limited and that is why he did not go.”
