NEW: Man in the dock for US$200 000 swindle

George Maponga in MASVINGO

A MASVINGO man has appeared before a magistrate’s court, facing charges of theft of trust property worth US$200 000.

Mr Adam Paulser (43) of Shakashe Drive was not asked to plead when he appeared before Masvingo magistrate, Ms Grace Tupiri.

Mr Paulser was not asked to plead, and the magistrate remanded him in custody to March 28.

He was denied bail after the State submitted there was a chance he would abscond or interfere with State witnesses.

Allegations against Mr Paulser arose when he was working as manager at Oplenac (Pvt) Ltd in the city between 2012 and 2015.

According to prosecutor, Mr Godknows Mugondo, during that time Paulser took advantage of the absence of company directors and allegedly exploited company resources for his personal benefit.

He allegedly hired out company equipment to several firms in Masvingo, including Masvingo City Council.

Mr Paulser also allegedly stole spare parts of some of the equipment, such as caterpillars and also converted money meant for other employees’ salaries to his own use.

He then resigned in 2015.

Mr Paulser then allegedly vanished from Masvingo after his resignation, only to resurface this year when he was then finally arrested.
